With less than 20 seconds left in the third quarter, number two Syracuse (3-1, 0-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference) attackman Owen Hiltz tapped home a goal to make it 8-6 in favor of number six Maryland (3-0, 0-0 in Big Ten) but that would be the closest the Orange would make it losing 11-7.

Syracuse's offense looked unstoppable after scoring 55 goals in its first three games. However, that all changed in the second half against the Terrapins as the Orange attack went dormant, scoring just twice in the frame.

"I thought their goaltending was excellent, especially with shots without pressure," Syracuse head coach Gary Gait said postgame.
Maryland netminder Logan McNaney stopped 12 shots on the day but only faced three fourth-quarter rips on goal.
After a hat trick against Towson, Michael Leo failed to score, while Luke Rhoa and Finn Thomson, two regular scorers for the Orange were held to just one tally.
Coach Gait explained why his team fizzled out in the second half, and Maryland got the upper edge.
"They scored when they needed to, they got ground balls when they needed it," Coach Gait said.
The headman added that Maryland’s defensive tactics caught the Cuse attackers off guard.
“They (Maryland) executed a slowdown game; they used the shot clock almost every single possession. It was not an up and down game,” Coach Gait said.
It was a dominant second half for @TerpsMLax against @CuseMLAX.@SamuelReisTV narrated a goal off the rebound for Terrapins attack Daniel Kelly.
