A student multi-media project, Unlocking NY, allowed journalism, photography, digital media & other Newhouse students to create more than 30 stories around the Erie Canal as it reaches 200 years old.

A mural project focusing on the history of the Erie Canal has been called the longest mural trail int eh world. Artist Mark DeCracker says each work must be historically accurate.

The Erie Canal helped breweries grow and many are still associated with the historic waterway. Big Ditch Brewery gets its name from the canal and continues the association today.
