Syracuse University announced Tuesday that J. Michael Haynie will succeed Kent Syverud as Chancellor. Haynie was serving as Vice Chancellor for strategic Initiatives and Whitman Management Dean.

Syracuse University named Dr. Michael Haynie as Chancellor and president, succeeding Kent Syverud who's retiring June 2026. Haynie was Vice Chancellor of Strategic Initiatives and Dean of Management.

A Syracuse University professor, who took the ice over thirty years ago, took the ice in Lake Placid, where she inspired young fans at the 2026 Empire State Winter Games.

After serving 12 years at the helm of SU the Chancellor says he will wrap up his tenure at the end of the school year in June of 2026.
