Central New York’s workforce is one of nine regions across the state receiving a share of more than $15 million of workforce development grants.
Oswego County will be given $485,000 to create a "Pathways to Apprenticeship" program for entry-level construction, along with clean and nuclear energy projects.
Onondaga Community College is set to receive $216,000 to update machinery and equipment, including a new one-year welding certificate program.
Roofers Local 195 in CNY will receive over $685,000 to support the renovation and expansion of its Liverpool training facility. This includes the ability to double its enrollment capacity due to assistance with training and operating costs.
“By working with employers in target industries, more New Yorkers are learning the skills needed for high-demand jobs, while receiving the support they need to promote greater success,” said Governor Kathy Hochul in a press release. “These projects represent an investment in New Yorkers and the future of our state's economy.”
The grants are intended to support the future workforce to train in-demand skills and industry-recognized credentials.
