How concerned should you be about AI-generated content in media and communications?

Newhouse Impact showcasing the research and creative activity of the faculty and students at the Newhouse School.
Newhouse School

With the election nearing, we thought we would revisit the notion of AI-generated content and concerns over the veracity of what you see, hear and read.

On this episode of Newhouse Impact, Research Professor Jason Davis and Multimedia & Digital Storytelling Professor RC Concepcion raise awareness about all the ways AI can be confusing or manipulative. But they also point out many positive uses.

Davis and Concepcion further suggest we've been consuming AI for years — in computer-generated movie scenes, in air-brushed advertising images, etc. — and what's needed is more education to develop a discerning audience. They also note tools are on the way to help sniff out what is presented as authentic and original, but is actually manipulated, amalgamated or outright plagiarized.
