Most of us are familiar with political campaigns conducted through media ads, social media, and campaign events. Research shows local campaign offices with energized volunteers might have more impact on getting people out to vote and even swaying close elections. The door-to-door campaigning also provides feedback on issues and how messages are getting through.
On this episode of Newhouse Impact, Professor Joshua Darr's new book Storefront Campaigning takes a look at the value of this tactic, and how it should be expanded. While we usually associate these with presidential campaigns, Darr argues continuing to run such offices could help keep a local volunteer base energized around local candidates, engaging voters, and even easing the current political divide.
