21st century digital journalism and its role in the fledgling democracy of Kosovo

Newhouse Impact: Showcasing the research and creative activity of the faculty and students at the Newhouse School
Newhouse School

The challenges of journalism have been getting more complicated with many people getting their news from Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok or other digital avenues. Anthony Adornato, Broadcast & Digital Journalism Chair at Newhouse, wrote the book Mobile and Social Media Journalism. He teaches how to mold important stories to the various platforms, from legacy media such as newspapers, radio and TV to social and digital channels.

On this episode of Newhouse Impact, Adornato shares his experiences going to Kosovo and working with radio and TV reporters there on how to tell stories across the different platforms. He also tells us why basic fact-based, rigorous writing and reporting are more important than ever in a fledgling or older democracy.

The Newhouse Impact theme music was created by Kat Kollins. Topic research and guest scheduling by Maggie DiPatri. Newhouse Impact is a collaboration between WAER and the Newhouse School of Public Communications, with help from the office of Dr. Regina Lutrell.
