State Legislators Endorse Mayor Stephanie Miner for Re-election

Mayor Stephanie Miner
Miner for Mayor

Syracuse’s Democratic state lawmakers say Mayor Stephanie Minerhas been a tireless advocate of Syracuse and a close partner in government.

Assemblymembers Bill Magnarelli and Sam Roberts, plus Senator Dave Valesky endorsed Miner’s campaign for re-election today in front of H.W. Smith school.  The building is the last to be renovated under phase one of the massive Joint Schools Construction Project.  Bill Magnarelli says Miner made sure legislation for phase two made it through the legislature:

"What that will bring is another $300 million in construction for our schools - something that will not hurt the debt limit of the city of Syracuse, the bonds that will be put out for those schools [will] be paid by the state."

SENATOR DAVE VALESKY:

"I can't tell you how many times, when I would call Mayor Miner from Albany, through the budget process, and then after the budget process, 'What do you need for the city, I know we have a lot of issues we're working on...' Always, time and time again, you can't leave Albany without getting that second phase of the joint school construction board legislation done because it's just too important."

Valesky says Miner always speaks out and stands up for the city.  His support follows statements by challenger Pat Hogan, who has pointed out the mayor’s lack of initiative or progress on certain issues.  Miner says residents can see her accomplishments everywhere they go:

"We've had close to a billion dollars in economic development. We have projects in every single neighborhood that have been completed or are moving forward. We have the Land Bank, the Airport Authority, renovated schools. So, what we're doing is just reminding people - but they know that it's there."

Residents will be able to hear Miner and Hogan square off on the issues at two joint appearances leading up to the primary election, but she’s declined an invitation to five debates proposed by Hogan.  Miner is facing challenges by Hogan and Alfonso Davis.  Primary day is Tuesday, September 10th
