Syracuse (0-0) basketball tips its season off against Cornell (0-0) in the Carrier Dome on Friday as the Orange attempts to follow-up a successful campaign.
Last year, SU advanced to the Final four and earned a record of 30-10, marking the first time in school history that the Orange won 30 or more games in back-to-back seasons.
The Orange return its top scorer and rebounder from last season in C.J. Fair. The senior was also voted the Preseason ACC Player of the Year and is on the watch list for the Oscar Robertson Award.
Even with the impressive 2012-2013 season, Coach Boeheim believes that Fair has gotten even better, “I thought CJ’s improved on a lot of things in the off-season,” Boeheim said following the 79-41 exhibition win against Holy Family.
SU was 2-0 in the past week in Exhibition games, also beating Ryerson 81-46 on Tuesday.
It was the first time highly touted freshman Tyler Ennis has been seen in the Carrier Dome and the starting freshman point guard has impressed Coach Boeheim early in his SU career, “Tyler Ennis played really well tonight, but he's still a freshman and still has a lot to learn.” Ennis has big shoes to fill as the Canadian freshman fills in for 11th overall draft pick, Michael Carter-Williams, who played point guard for SU and was a vital part of the final four run.
