Behind an explosive second-quarter performance, Syracuse took down Seton Hall 72-54 to advance to the Super 16 of the WNIT. The win also brings ‘Cuse up to 20 victories for the first time since the 2018-19 season.

Early on, it looked like this game would come down to the wire until the very end. The score was just 9-7 in favor of Syracuse after the first 10 minutes of action. The slow start quickly evolved into a lightning-quick, high-power offense that rattled the Pirates.

The Orange scored 26 points in the second quarter alone. They got the job done on both ends of the court, though; Seton Hall only mustered up eight points in the second quarter for a first-half total of 15 points.

Despite being down 20 at the half, Seton Hall came out firing on all cylinders. The Pirates outscored the Orange 25-16 in the third quarter. However, their offense was much more effective than their defense, never truly allowing them to get back in the game.

Dyaisha Fair kept her season-long double-digit scoring streak going with 24 on the night. She showed off her versatility on offense, knocking down four three-point field goals along with her usual crafty shots inside the arch.

Behind Fair was Georgia Woolley. While the sophomore guard is primarily known as a three-point threat, Woolley showed off her athleticism and ability to drive to the hoop, notching 19 points with just one made three on eight attempts. She added five assists and four rebounds to round out her solid all-around performance.

As a team, the Orange won the rebound battle, outrebounding the Pirates 46-39. Dariauna Lewis led the way with 10 boards, her sixteenth double-digit rebounding effort this season. The fifth-year forward was one point shy of what would’ve been her thirteenth double-double this year.

Despite pulling out the win, turnovers continued to be a nagging issue for ‘Cuse in the contest, with the Orange giving the ball away 16 times. This marked one of several games in which Syracuse was rather sloppy with the ball but was able to make up for it with good shooting and suffocating defense.

Seton Hall was led by Lauren Park-Lane, a senior guard. She was their only player in double digits with 23 points. Park-Lane was the only member of the Seton Hall squad to make more than four field goals in a game that saw her team struggle to get around Syracuse’s more athletic and peskier defense.

Syracuse is now 20-12 on the season. SU faces Columbia at 7 p.m. on Friday. The game will be played at Columbia University’s Levien Gymnasium.
