Something has clicked for Jim Boeheim’s team.

After losing to Virginia Tech at home less than 2 weeks ago, the Orange have rallied off 3 straight victories, including two on the road. One against the defending champion Virginia Cavaliers, and now this hard-fought game at Virginia Tech. This has given Syracuse’s tournament hopes newfound life, and momentum heading into a critical 3-game stretch of ACC play.

The Syracuse Men’s Basketball team is riding a three-game winning streak. These wins have all been against ACC teams and have given the Orange a 4-3 record in conference. SU has also notched two notable wins against both Virginia and Virginia Tech. Wednesday, Jim Boeheim and team have the opportunity for revenge. Last time these two teams faced off, it was a heartbreaker for the Cuse. The team lost by one after Joe Girard III hit a long three and it looked like he got fouled to put him on the line for an opportunity to tie the game.

Saturday evening Syracuse hoops notched their biggest win so far this season with a 63-55 overtime victory over 18th ranked Virginia.

As expected, both teams displayed their slow and methodical offenses complemented by disciplined and hard-nose defense. At times the rock fight of a game looked more like a noon Big 10 football game than it did a basketball game.

As we approach the halfway point of the 2019-2020 college basketball season, the output from Syracuse basketball leaves much to be desired. Sitting at 8-7, with a dismal 1-3 Atlantic Coast record, with the most difficult part of their schedule just ahead, Syracuse does not have much to look forward to either. On Saturday at 4:00, the Orange will take on the No. 18 Virginia Cavaliers (11-3, 3-1) in Charlottesville in a rematch of the 2019-20 season opener.

But bettors were right in their expectations, as the teams combined for 175 points, including 30 three pointers, shooting 48.4% each.

After the ten-point loss to Georgetown, the Syracuse Basketball team looks to rebound against Oakland University. The Golden Grizzlies are the sixth team the Orange has played that is not a power five team.  Four of the five of those teams have resulted in victories, and SU hopes for more of the same against Oakland. The last time these two teams played, Syracuse won by over 20 points.
