Teaching Public Relations from real-world scenarios to AI to social causes

Newhouse Impact: Showcasing the research and creative activity of the faculty and students at the Newhouse School
Newhouse School

The teaching of public relations includes learning about key messaging and target audiences, media relations and strategies to promote image or mitigate damage. Many of those same strategies can be used when the client is a charitable organization or one involved in a social movement.

On this episode of Newhouse Impact, Assistant Teaching Professor of Public Relations Arien Rozelle discusses how she leads students through real-world scenarios to apply theories, but also gets them involved with real clients to build experience. She shares examples of her research and student projects that might expand notions of what a PR career might look like. Rozelle further touches on AI and how it is changing the field, as well as how it is taught.

Newhouse Impact is a collaboration between WAER and the Newhouse School of Public Communications with help from the office of Dr. Regina Lutrell. Research and guest scheduling help from Chris Fiegel.

Music in this episode is Before You by Max Billion from Artlist IO.
