A state grant of half-a-million dollars announced Wednesday will ward off problems that threatened to close or damage parts of Syracuse’s Museum of Science and Technology.  MOST President Lauren Kochian has been struggling to make repairs to the 112-year-old Armory that houses the museum.  Faulty and inefficient boilers and repairs to the building’s exterior are among the needs.  But a failing roof threatened to damage some of the museum’s exhibits.

The twists and turns of the options to address the aging I-81 viaduct through Syracuse and what residents think or really desire is about to take center stage this Wednesday evening.  A public information forum will be held at Henninger High School with members of the State D-O-T and a local delegation of state elected officials to listen.

Senator John DeFrancisco says there are members of the public who feel the options haven’t been considered in a comprehensive way.

The Magnarelli Community Center at McChesney Park is one of the busier recreation facilities in Syracuse that’s utilized by Youth and Seniors on the North Side.  Between the gym and an undeveloped green field next to Grant Middle School, residents will have an opportunity to play more basketball games during the cold weather and a soccer field down the road through a $350,000 grant.  Assemblymember Bill Magnarelli secured the funding and says his office received numerous calls for a soccer field.
